You do not have to solve this in one sitting

This is not a project for your best day. It is a plan for low-energy days, follow-up days, and days when you can only do one thing.

In the next 7 days
  • Build the file.
  • Ask for the itemized bill and the review hold.
  • Figure out whether this is a provider problem, an insurance problem, or a collections problem.
The week after
  • Submit hardship paperwork or push the corrected claim forward.
  • Follow up on the hold, the application, or the appeal.
  • Escalate if the account keeps moving without explanation.
Before money changes hands
  • Confirm the balance is real.
  • Confirm discounts or assistance have already been applied.
  • Get the final terms in writing.
After you make an agreement
  • Save the written terms.
  • Calendar the due date.
  • Keep proof of every payment and every new bill.
If a caregiver is helping
Give them one clear job and one clear script.

Patient statement

"I'm in treatment, and I want my caregiver to help me manage this account. What release or permission do you need so you can speak with both of us?"

Caregiver opener

"I'm helping keep track of the paperwork and deadlines. Please send every next step in writing so nothing gets missed."

If today is a low-energy day

"Build the file and make one documented call."

That still counts. One finished step beats five frantic ones.
